On April 14, 2024, six dedicated members of Phoenix Martial Arts in Swindon joined other GTI members to participate in an Umpire and Referee course. This course is a critical step in ensuring the smooth running of martial arts competitions and reflects the ongoing commitment of our members to the martial arts community.
Three Phoenix members—Alexander Burton, Olivia Mojsak, and Radek Mojsak—took their first steps towards becoming officials by undergoing Umpire training. Additionally, three already qualified umpires—Richard Lane, Crissie O’Bey, and Cody O’Bey—advanced their skills by training to become Referees.
Becoming an official is a significant way of giving back to the organization and its members, as competitions rely heavily on the support of trained umpires and referees. The course represents the dedication of these individuals to their own development and their commitment to supporting others within the martial arts community.
Following the initial training, the new umpires and referees will gain practical experience and undergo assessment at a minimum of three competitions. They will be officially qualified by the Chief Umpire once they have demonstrated their competency and readiness to officiate.
