Phoenix Martial Arts at Liverpool competition with medals

After a five-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the GTI North West Open returned to Liverpool on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2024. Phoenix Martial Arts in Swindon proudly participated, with 11 members, two additional coaches, and a supportive group of parents making the long journey to compete.

Logan Rutherford led the Phoenix team with outstanding performances, securing gold medals in both patterns and sparring. Jasmine Roux-Nel added to the gold tally with her victory in sparring, while Austin Pearce clinched gold in patterns.

The team also celebrated several silver medals, awarded to Adam McKinlay, Kian Miller-Hogg, Kelsey Lane, Richard Lane, and Lucas Kershaw. Bronze medals were earned by Joseph McKinlay and Jacob Wait, showcasing the depth of talent within the Phoenix squad.

Despite missing out on a medal, Cody O’Bey made a commendable return to competition after an injury, expressing great satisfaction with his performance.

The warm hospitality of Liverpool added to the event’s success, creating an enjoyable and memorable experience for all participants. The camaraderie and sportsmanship displayed by all competitors highlighted the positive spirit of the martial arts community.
